Laos Silk Brocade

This beautiful shawl was hand-woven in the textile studio, Ock Pop Tok, in the monastic city of Luang Prabang. The weaving is exceptional and the complex traditional motifs are woven with a hint of contemporary design.

Ock Pop Tok -meaning east meets west -  brings people together through textiles, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and ideas. This cooperative of more than 20 women of three generations, was established in 2000 by an Englishwoman and a local weaver.

Textiles are an important part of Lao life, and the women of Ock Pop Tok use their creativity and energy to weave beautiful silk textiles that are grounded in tradition yet embody the future of Laos.
