Laos Ikat Stole

225.00

From the textiles studio and school of Taykeo Sayavongkhamdy, this beautiful hand-woven and hand-dyed ikat textile is a wonderful example of the complex weaving traditions of Laos.

The colors are luminous and soft. The variations showcase the hand-made nature of the artisan techniques and processes. The silk is supple with a tactile hand.

Deeply knowledgeable about her country’s weaving and culture, Taykeo is revitalizing the rich, ancient textile arts of Laos.

She established a museum to house her ever-growing collection of heritage textiles to serve as a resource for study and inspiration. She supports and trains young weavers from remote villages specifically how to weave and dye the complex traditional Lao textiles. The resulting craftsmanship is truly exceptional.

These young women return to their villages not only with skills and an outlet for their fine work, but with a pride and appreciation for their culture and heritage.
