American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT) awarded the 2008 AWRT International Outreach Award to international journalist and author Mariane Pearl. This prestigious award recognizes an individual in the electronic media or allied field who has bridged borders and broken barriers to help Americans learn more, connect more or do more to support solutions that tackle issues of global concern.
Original Women supplied the award itself - an exquisite telephone wire platter hand crafted by talented women artisans in South Africa. In choosing this wonderful object, AWRT said that the beautiful piece of art added another layer of meaning to the award - women bridging cultures and celebrating the achievements of other women.
